Troop 82 Activities

Getting outdoors and practicing our skills as Scouts is a big part of the fun. No matter where you’re starting, the troop and troop leaders are here to support you.

Troop 82 typically offers 6-8 weekend trips each year. This is in addition to the weeklong camping opportunities in the summer. and small single day activities. All are optional, but are a great way to complete merit and Eagle-required badges.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tomahawk?

Our annual trip to Tomahawk camp is a week-long camp adventure in Birchwood, Wisconsin. Scouts spend time on the lake, earn merit badges, build campfires, eat in the dining hall, and even take on cleaning duties! There is an additional cost that can be covered through direct payment, fundraising, or a combination. For families needing financial support, there are confidential resources to assist with payment.

How involved do parents get in Scouting?

Parent participation ranges greatly. We have dedicated scoutmasters and leaders, usually parents to current scouts, who enjoy the being part of the Scouting experience and serving as role models to the troop. There are other parents that aren’t in an official role, but volunteer for different trips and activities throughout the year. And a few families choose to support their Scout simply by signing them up for Scouting. Of course, we hope families and parents will join us for as many activities as fit within their schedule.

Do Scouts go on all the camping trips?

We know schedules are busy and you’ll find a lot of flexibility in Scouting. Some Scouts participate in most of the activities, while other Scouts select just a few key events. In either case, these trips are the best way to accumulate camping nights toward the Eagle-required camping merit badge. Scouts gain a lot of independence and experience with each camping trip. The older Scouts also help guide the younger Scouts.

Will my Scout be an Eagle Scout?

Dedicated Scouts like to set goals, and becoming an Eagle Scout is definitely a top honor. We’re proud to support each Scout’s journey toward that rank. It’s not always easy, but it’s very much in reach with a little focus and planning. There are some Scouts that want to just enjoy Scouting without reaching for the Eagle rank, but many Scouts in Troop 82 aim for and achieve their Eagle rank through their ongoing participation in our troop. We lend support in many ways, including the tracking of the Scout’s advancement.
